In yet another success in its crusade against smuggling activities Assam Rifles recovered 90 Bags of Poppy Seeds weighing 5400 Kg worth Rupees 19.44 Lakh in general area Melbuk Road junction, Zokhawthar Champhai district on 15 February 2024.
The operation was carried out by a combined team of Assam Rifles with repersentative of Custom Preventive Force, Champhai based on specific information. The entire consignment of Poppy seeds Rupees 19,44,000/- (Rupees Nineteen lakh forty four thousand only) and recovered consignment has been handed over to Custom Preventive Force, Champhai for further legal proceedings.
Ongoing smuggling of contraband items is a major cause of concern for the state of Mizoram .
