ASSAM RIFLES CONDUCTED WREATH LAYING CEREMONY TO THE BRAVEHEART

Assam Rifles under the aegis HQ IGAR(S) organized a wreath laying ceremony in honour of Nk Tek Bahadur Thapa, KC (P) who gave supreme sacrifice during intense counter insurgency operations.

On the 24 th Feb 1983, Nk Tek Bahadur Thapa based on inputs received regarding killing of Sateek Village Council by MNF cadre. A column was sent to General Area Tacchip where Nk Tek Bahadur along with his buddy interrogated two Individuals present at Tacchip near Jhoom Hut. While doing so one of the Individuals tried to escape towards Jungle and Nk Tek Bahadur Thapa pursued the Individual along with his buddy. The Individual fired back 2-3 rounds with his hidden pistol at Tek Bahadur Thapa causing injury in the abdomen. Nk Tek Bahadur despite his injuries fired 10-12 rounds which resulted in elimination of the cadre.

Nk Tek Bahadur Thapa succumbed to his injuries at Civil Hospital in Aizwal and was awarded with prestigious Kirti Chakra medal which was received by his wife from the then President Giani Zail Singh at Rashtrapati Bhavan on 26th February 1985.

The battalion honoured the Braveheart who made supreme sacrifice for the cause of the nation on this day.

The ceremony commenced with the wreath laying by Commandant of the unit who exhorted all ranks with the narration of the story of the braveheart to infuse a sense of pride and honour in the troops.

A total of 04 Officers, 08 Junior Commissioned Officers and 81 Other Ranks paid tribute by laying wreaths & according Guard of Honour.

ASSAM RIFLES ESTABLISHED A MULTI-FUNCTIONAL CYBER POINT AT SAJIK TAMPAK VILLAGE, CHANDEL DISTRICT (MANIPUR)

Locals in the Sajik Tampak area have been facing difficulties in addressing common day-to-day functions like banking & registration/ submitting applications to various government & non-government institutes. Assam Rifles in continuation of its efforts towards exemplifying compassion & support during these challenging times have provided hardware & apparatus for establishment of a multi-functional cyber point at Sajik Tampak village in Chandel District on 23 Feb 2024.

Continued efforts by the Assam Rifles have been instrumental in assisting locals in the tough times created due to the ongoing ethnic crisis in Manipur.

*DISTRIBUTION OF FOOTBALL & VOLLEYBALL TO JAMKHULUM MEMORIAL ACADEMY SCHOOL*

Times are changing fast for Sajik Valley and they are changing for the good. The bonhomie shared between the locals and Security Forces over the past nine months has provided positive impact and accelerated the peace initiative.

As a welfare activity, Asam Rifles distributed Football and Volleyball to the students of Jamkhulum Memorial Academy School, Chandel District (Manipur).on 23 Feb 24. During this Interaction with the students of Jamkhulum Memorial Academy School, they were appraised about the importance of playing sports and the available opportunities for youths for making a stellar career in the field of sports, as coaches, physical trainers and associated support staff.

The efforts taken for organising the event and assistance being provided for furthering sports culture in the area was deeply appreciated by the teachers and students.
