ASSAM RIFLES CONDUCTS CLOSING CEREMONY FOR 10TH LATE MAJOR BOB KHATHING CELEBRATIONS IN UKHRUL

In culmination to the 10 day long celebrations marking the 112th Birth Anniversary of Late Major Bob Khathing, Assam Rifles organised wreath laying ceremony at the memorial statue of Late Major Bob Khathing and conducted the closing ceremony of his 112th Birth Anniversary Celebrations on 26 February 2024 in Ukhrul district, Manipur.

The wreath laying ceremony was conducted at the memorial statue of Late Major Bob Khathing at Awonthang. Wreaths were laid on behalf of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (South), Headquarters 10 Sector Assam Rifles, Somsai Battalion and by Mr John SR Khathing. The ceremony is an annual tribute to the memory of the great personality and was conducted in step with military traditions and honour.
The 10th Edition of Late Major Bob Khathing Celebrations culminated with the Men’s football final and a show of the rich culture of Tangkhul Homeland by a tribal dance performance. The Chief Guest of the closing ceremony, Mr John SR Khathing, son of Late Major Bob Khathing felicitated the distinguished guests who attended the celebrations and gave his address followed by closing remarks offered by Commander 10 Sector Assam Rifles.


The event had an exciting finish to the celebrations with the finals of the Men’s Football Tournament being won by HPFA and the Haokok FC coming as Runner’s Up. The Women’s Volleyball was won by The Eagle Volleyball Club with the Runner’s Up Trophy going to SML SAKA and the Baby League Victors were the little stars of Haokok UFA and the Runner’s Up UBSF-A.

 

The tournament was undertaken by Assam Rifles in association with Ukhrul District Sports Association (UDSA) from 17-26 February 2024. The celebration was witnessed by 5000 youth, students, teachers and people from all walks of life.
