Assam Rifles, under the aegis of HQ IGAR(S), organized a solemn wreath-laying ceremony to honor Rifleman Surender Lal Arya, who made the supreme sacrifice during intense counterinsurgency operations.
On November 22nd, 1995, Rifleman Surendra Lal Arya, while on duty at Kalainchara Post, bravely opened retaliatory fire against insurgents attempting to attack his post. His actions resulted in injuries to two insurgents, effectively thwarting the attack. Unfortunately, Rifleman Surendra Lal Arya sustained injuries himself and was evacuated to the nearest Military Hospital for treatment. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries on February 28th, 1996.
Assam Rifles paid homage to this valiant soldier who laid down his life for the nation’s cause on this very day. The ceremony commenced with the laying of wreaths by the Commandant of the unit, who shared the courageous tale of Rifleman Surendra Lal Arya to instill a deep sense of pride and honor among the ranks.
In total, 04 Officers, 14 Junior Commissioned Officers, and 95 Other Ranks of the Battalion paid their respects by laying wreaths and rendering a Guard of Honor.
