BSF VIGILANCE THWRATS BIG ATTEMPT OF GOLD SMUGGLING, ARRESTS SMUGGLER WITH GOLD WORTH Rs. 1.77 CRORE ON THE INDO-BANGLADESH BORDER

Vigilant troops of Border outpost Gobardha, 102 Battalion BSF, under the South Bengal Frontier thwarted a big attempt of gold smuggling and apprehended a Bangladeshi smuggler with 24 gold biscuits weighing 2,823.720 grams while being smuggled from Bangladesh to India. The estimated value of the seized gold is Rs 1,77,32961.6/-.

According to the South Bengal Frontier’s Spokesperson, On 28 February at about 0630 pm, troops of the Border outpost Gobardha received information about the possible attempt of gold smuggling. after that troops launched a special patrolling party in the border areas. While patrolling troops observed suspicious movement of a person who was attempting to cross the IB from Bangladesh to the Indian side. As he spotted the BSF troops, he started running back to Bangladesh, but in the course of the chase, the troops nabbed him. On searching nabbed smuggler, troops found 24 gold biscuits in his possession. Immediately, troops apprehended the smuggler and seized the gold pieces.

The apprehended person was identified as Ripon Hassan S/o MD Najrul Islam, Vill- Baikari, Distt- Satkhira, Bangladesh.

During interrogation, Ripon Hassan revealed that on 28.02.2024 at about 1740 hrs, he received the consignment from a Bangladeshi national named Hasan Gazi. Further, he left his home to deliver the gold biscuits to an unknown Indian smuggler and after completion of this work, Ripon would get 500 BD taka. When he entered India to smuggle gold biscuits he got apprehended by BSF.

The apprehended smuggler and seized gold biscuits have been handed over to the Customs office, tentulia.

On this achievement of the jawans, the Public Relations Officer of South Bengal Frontier, Shri A.K. Arya, DIG expressed happiness. He further said that notorious smugglers trap poor and innocent people by luring them with little money. Notorious trafficking gangs are not directly involved in crimes like smuggling, so they target poor people. He has appealed to the people living on the border that if they get any information related to gold smuggling, they can give this information to BSF’s Seema Sathi helpline number 14419. Apart from this, South Bengal Frontier has also issued another helpline number 9903472227. WhatsApp messages or voice messages related to gold smuggling can also be sent. The person giving concrete information will be given a suitable amount as a reward and his identity will be kept secret.
