Principal Chief Commercial Manager Eastern Railway, Soumitra Majumdar facilitated Eastern Railway’s Chess Players for outstanding performance in National Rapid & Blitz Chess Tournament. The National Rapid & Blitz Chess Tournament was organized at Nashik, Maharashtra from 4th March to 7th March, 2024. Eastern Railway employees, Grandmaster Diptayan Ghosh, (rated 2559) and International Master Aronyak Ghosh (rated 2517) secured the 1st and 2nd place in the National Raped Chess Tournament respectively, while Grandmaster Diptayan Ghosh also won the National Blitz Chess Tournament. This is for the first time that any Player representing India Railways has won both the National Rapid & Blitz Chess Tournament in the same year.
Grandmaster Diptayan Ghosh got selected to represent India at the World Rapid and Blitz Chess Tournament to be held later this year.
It may be noted that Aronyak Ghosh was a part of the Indian Railway Team which finished 3rd at the National Team Chess Championship, 2023. Previously, Aronyak Ghosh has finished 3rd at the National Premier Chess Championship at Pune in 2003. Another renowned Chess Player Shri Diptayan Ghosh has joined Eastern Railway in December’ 2023, is a former Bronze medallist at the Asian Indoor Games held at Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.
