54th Independence and National Day of Bangladesh celebrated in Guwahati

The 54th Independence and National Day of Bangladesh was celebrated with due fervor and festivity in Guwahati by the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission.

On this occasion, a reception programme was arranged on 26 March evening at a five-star hotel in Guwahati where Nandita Gorlosa, Minister of Power, Sports and Youth Welfare, Government of Assam was present as the chief guest. Roughly more than 250 guests attended the event including the Consul General of Bhutan,high-level government officials of Assam, journalists, university vice-chancellors and teachers, representatives of civil society, eminent businessmen, artists, and Bangladeshi nationals.

In her speech, Nandita Gorlosa congratulated the people of Bangladesh on the occasion of Independence and National Day. She also stressed on further cooperation between Bangladesh and India for achieving shared prosperity. In his welcome speech, Assistant High Commissioner Ruhul Amin paid deep homage to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, thirty lakh martyrs, two lakh violated women, valiant freedom fighters, and martyred members of Indian Armed Forces who laid down their lives in the Liberation War. The important aspects of the unprecedented socio-economic success of Bangladesh were highlighted in his speech.

 

On this occasion, the venue was decorated with pictures of Bangladesh and Bangabandhu, and read-green balloons. The event began with the national anthems of Bangladesh and India. Besides, the invited dignitaries were felicitated by the Assistant High Commission with flower bouquet and Assam’s traditional gamosa. A cultural performance with music and dance performed by local artists enthralled the guests. A documentary on the socio-economic progress of Bangladesh was also screened during the event.

In the morning session same day, flag hoisting, a floral tribute at the sculpture of the Father of the Nation, a special prayer, reading out of the messages, and a documentary screening etc. were done at the mission premises.
