Vigilant Jawans Border outpost Gede, 32 Battalion, BSF deployed in the border area of District Nadia of West Bengal under South Bengal Frontier carried out a special operation on March 28, 2024, on solid information from the Intelligence Department of BSF and busted a big gold smuggling racket, and arrested three women smugglers involved in gold smuggling along with 20 gold biscuits, 4 gold bricks, and 8 pieces of gold bricks. The dealer who came to collect this gold consignment was also arrested by the BSF. This smuggling gang after smuggling this gold cinsignment from Bangladesh to India was bringing it to Kolkata. The total weight of the seized gold is 7 kg and the estimated value is Rs 4,70,00,000/-.
According to the information received from BSF, on March 28, the soldiers of border outpost Gede received information from the intelligence department of BSF that a consignment of gold was going to be sent by Gede-Sealdah local train. Acting on this information, the personnel of Border outpost Gede, in a special operation, boarded the Sealdah bound train and identified the suspects, and at 1430 hours, as soon as 3 women smugglers alighted at Mayurhat Halt Railway Station with the consignment of gold and When they were about to give it to the dealer, the jawans arrested the three women smugglers and the dealer who had come to collect the gold consignment and recovered 07 kg of gold biscuits and bricks of different types from their possession.
Arrested smugglers were identified as: Apurna Biswas , Ashima Muhuri Mitali Pal, a resident of Village- Majherpada, Gede, District Nadia while the arrested dealer Soumen Biswas is a resident of Village- Chandpur, Post-Vijaypur District- Nadia.
During interrogation, the smugglers said that they worked for an unknown person living in the same village and the male smuggler said that he is a resident of Kadipur. Further, the women smugglers said that after taking the consignment of gold, they had to hand over this consignment at Mayurhat halt Railway Station to Soumen Biswas who was in contact with Mithali Paul, for this work they would have got Rs 1000 each. But when he reached Mayurhat Halt railway station with the gold consignment, BSF arrested them along with the gold.
All the arrested smugglers along with the gold consignment have been handed over to the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, Kolkata Zonal Unit for further legal action.

He said that notorious smugglers trap poor and innocent people by luring them with small amounts of money.
