Vigilants Troops of border outpost Tungi, 32 Battalion, BSF under South Bengal Frontier thwarted the gold smuggling attempt at the international border of the dist Nadia, West Bengal, and seized 5 gold biscuits when the smugglers were trying to smuggles these gold biscuits by throwing over the border fence from Bangladesh to India. The weight of the seized gold is 583 grams and the estimated Market value is Rs 42,55,090/-.
According to the information, On April 28, 2024 troops of Border outpost Tungi were performing 2nd shift ACP duty. At about 0525 hrs jawans deployed behind IBBF on IBBR while dominating the area and saw some suspicious movements of Bangladeshi smugglers from the Bangladesh side, In the meantime other jawans observed 02 Indian smugglers hiding in the bushes behind the cattle fence. Jawans immediately alerted other jawans deployed ahead of IBBF. The Indian smugglers were trying to come forward towards the cattle fence. Jawan challenged them not to go close to the cattle fence which did not affect them. As a last resort to frighten them, jawan fired PAG in the Air. smugglers ran back towards the houses in the back of the cattle fence. During the search, a white tightly wrapped plastic packet was found lying on the ground hidden in a bush. On opening the packet, jawans recovered 05 gold biscuits.
Seized Gold biscuits were handed over to the Customs Station, Banpur for further legal action.
A.K Arya, DIG, Public Relations Officer of BSF, South Bengal Frontier, expressed happiness over this achievement of the BSF. He further said that strict action would be taken against those involved in smuggling. He appealed to the people living on the border to contact BSF’s Seema Sathi helpline number if they get any information related to gold smuggling and can give information to BSF on number 14419. South Bengal Frontier has also issued another number 9903472227 on which WhatsApp messages or voice messages related to gold smuggling can also be sent. A suitable reward amount will be given to the person providing concrete information and his identity will be kept confidential.
