Army Organizes Extensive Activities Across North East India to Commemorate World Environment Day

In a resounding commitment to environmental stewardship and community engagement, the Indian Army organized a series of events across Manipur, Assam, Tripura, and Nagaland on the occasion of World Environment Day, celebrated on 5th June 2024. These initiatives aimed to foster awareness about environmental conservation and sustainability among local communities and school children.

In Assam, at Kordoiguri Higher Secondary School in Diasajan, a comprehensive event was held in collaboration with the Gorkha Mahila Samiti and the local community of Tinsukia. The event witnessed participation of 200 students, teaching staff, and locals. A lecture themed ‘Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience’ provided in-depth insights into pressing environmental issues like deforestation, global warming and waste management. Emphasizing the three R’s – Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle, the lecture significantly impacted attendees, motivating them towards environmental conservation. The event concluded with the plantation of 500 tree saplings and a cleanliness drive, reinforcing the commitment to environmental health. In Mariani too, a tree plantation drive and a cleanliness drive was successfully organized with enthusiastic participation from civilians and school children.

 

In Agartala, the message “Our Land, Our Future” was propagated through a variety of engaging activities. A painting competition titled “Painting a Green Future” saw the participation of 33 children, showcasing their creativity and passion for a sustainable environment. Additional activities included the restoration of waste land, awareness drives through movies and lectures, and the plantation of over 250 saplings. These events highlighted the importance of environmental sustainability and garnered enthusiastic participation from the community.

In collaboration with the Bishnupur Forest Division,a tree plantation drive was held at Kumbi Public School in Kumbi, Bishnupur District. The event involved the planting of 250 saplings and an interactive educational session focused on preserving ecosystems and promoting eco-friendly lifestyles. At Moreh in Tegnoupal District, a painting competition for local children, a cleanliness drive with locals and youth and a movie screening for local children were organized. These activities, under the theme “Olives Love Green,” aimed to inspire environmental responsibility among the participants. A motivational lecture and an awareness drive were also conducted at the unit level in Manipur on 30th May 2024.

In Nagaland, a painting competition for children at APPS, Zakhama, was held under the theme ‘Beat Plastic Pollution,’ with 20 toddlers participating. A cleanliness drive themed ‘Swachhta Hi Seva’ was organized at Rangapahar and Zakhama Military Stations, demonstrating the importance of cleanliness and hygiene. Additionally, a motivational lecture and movie-based awareness drive were conducted at unit level across Nagaland. The events culminated in a sapling plantation drive with the theme “Olives Love Green” at Rangapahar and Zakhama Military Stations.

These extensive activities across the North East region underscore the Indian Army’s dedication to environmental sustainability and community welfare. The enthusiastic participation and the significant impact of these events highlight the collective effort towards a greener and more sustainable future.
