On 2nd July 2024, the Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, hosted the inspiring Second Edition of TACE-2024 (Thangkul Arts and Craft Exhibition) in the scenic village of Phungyar, Kamjong district, Manipur.

This meaningful event is part of TRIFED’s (Tribal Co-operative Marketing Development Federation of India) drive to support tribal artists. The initiative aims to preserve and promote the cultural heritage of tribal communities, offering them a platform to showcase their remarkable artistic skills. By coordinating directly with the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, the event ensures that artisans receive fair recognition and remuneration, fostering sustainable living without the interference of middlemen.

The Ministry of Tribal Affairs provided the artisans with Transport and Dearness Allowance (TADA), while the Assam Rifles supported the event by offering meals, local transport, and outreach assistance. This collaborative effort reflects a commitment to preserving local culture and supporting sustainable livelihoods.

The event featured a gathering of 40 participants, including 27 tribal artisans, representatives from the Phungyar village council, and officials from the Ministry of Tribal Affairs. Local villagers also attended, eager to celebrate and preserve their rich cultural traditions.

The exhibition began with a warm welcome note, followed by the artisans proudly displaying their handcrafted treasures. Among the showcased items were Haora shawls, Varao Kazei spears, Khairei swords, Kuisikhai knives, Ngalasop baskets, Mayo Pasi headgears, beadworks, handbags, black pottery items, embroidered pieces, handmade scarves, and bamboo artifacts. Representatives from the Ministry of Tribal Affairs facilitated the registration of artisans, ensuring they receive ongoing support through direct monetary benefits.

The tribal artisans expressed their deep gratitude and appreciation towards the Assam Rifles for organizing such a significant event. They pledged their wholehearted support to the security forces, highlighting the importance of preserving local culture and promoting sustainable living practices.
