The vigilant jawans of different battalions under BSF South Bengal Frontier foiled several smuggling attempts in a series of operations conducted in the districts North 24 Parganas, Nadia and Malda of West Bengal and seized huge quantity of 21 types of illegal medicines, 822 bottles of banned cough syrup Phensedyl and freed 05 cows from the clutches of smugglers and arrested the Bangladeshi cattle smuggler red handed. When the smugglers were trying to smuggle phensedyl & cattles from India to Bangladesh and try to smuggle these medicines from bangladesh to India. The estimated value of the seized goods is Rs 27,37,005/-
According to the information, on the night of 17/18 August, intelligence about smuggling of banned items through the unfenced river area of ​​​​Border Outpost Ranghat, 68 Battalion was shared by the BSF Intelligence Department to the Company Commander. Taking action, the Company Commander alerted all the duty deployed jawans of the unfenced river area through radio set. During duty, the jawans saw 3 suspicious smugglers trying to infiltrate into Indian territory with bags in their hands. They were moving towards Bangladesh hiding in the increased water level of the river and marshy grass. Recognizing the potential danger, the jawan fired 01 stun grenade at the smugglers to stop the smuggling. On hearing the sound of the stun shell, all the smugglers fled towards Bangladesh leaving a plastic bag in the water body of Kodalia River. After this, the Company Commander immediately reached the spot and conducted a thorough search of the area but 01 polybag was recovered. In which 05 carton boxes filled with different medicines were found.
Apart from this, the jawan of Border Outpost Neemtita, 115 Battalion caught a Bangladeshi smuggler with 2 medium sized cows from the Ganga river when the smuggler was illegally taking these cows to India-Bangladesh along the flow of the Ganga river. The arrested Bangladeshi smuggler has been identified as MD Manik, who is a resident of Jagannathpur, a border village in Chapainawabganj district of Bangladesh.
Apart from this, in other incidents on the same day, the jawans of Border Outpost Dobarpada, Angrel 05th Battalion and Border Outpost Nawada, 70 Battalion and Panchberia, 107 Battalion seized a total of 822 bottles of Phensedyl.
The arrested smuggler and the seized goods have been handed over to the concerned police station for further action.
The Public Relations Officer of South Bengal Frontier, A.K. Arya, DIG said that BSF is taking strict steps to stop smuggling on the Indo-Bangladesh border. Due to this, people involved in such crimes have to face a lot of trouble. The officer further said that we will not allow smuggling from our area under any circumstances.
