Urban-Khet (a non-profit) working towards environmental sustainability and conservation to organized a workshop on Kitchen Garden and its benefit highlighting the no-cost farming using kitchen waste and biodegradable organic waste to produce vegetables and fruits at kitchen gardens. The workshop was organized to celebrate ‘ World Kitchen Garden Day’ which is being celebrated on August 25, 2024 every year across the world aiming food security and fresh supply of vegetables at household level.
The programme started at 3 PM at the terrace garden of Shankar Agarwal situated at Bhaskar Nagar, 4th by-lane, Guwahati where several varieties of fruits (Guava, dragon fruit, pomegranate, star fruit, black berry, banana, lemons, etc.) and vegetables are planted and harvested to cater substantial household needs.
Urban-khet intends to sensitize and generate awareness among the participants through this workshop on the climate positive initiatives at household level to set up kitchen gardens in a small area viz. balcony, extended window sills, flower pots, buckets, etc.. Further, use of organic kitchen waste and it’s segregation were highlighted by Environmentalist Dr. Hari P. Agarwal, President and Er Rajesh Dutta, Secretary of urban khet. The workshop was attended by Mrs Trishnashree Dutta, Media Coordinator, Mr Moharana Choudhury, Voice of Environment and invited guests and likeminded people along with students of Architecture Department, Royal Global University, Guwahati having total 30 attendees.
Er Rajesh Dutta, Urban Khet has conducted a quiz on ‘ Know Indian spices and its usages’. He also talked about segregation process of biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste mentioning its environmental impact and day to day climate positive activities anyone can undertake for sustainable future.
The program ended with a vote of thanks by the member of Urban Khet.
