Mohun Bagan Super Giant and East Bengal FC have clashed against each other 340 times in 22 cities spread all over the country since their classical rivalry began in Kolkata in 1925.
But never in Lucknow. Football fans in the capital of Uttar Pradesh didn’t get the opportunity to watch the “Derby of the East,” despite the city boasting a rich sporting culture.
On Monday, September 2, 2024, a new chapter will be added to Lucknow’s sporting history when the two Kolkata giants take the pitch at the KD Singh Babu Stadium. The match will kick off at 6.30 pm. It will be live on DD Sports and streamed live on the Indian Football YouTube channel.
The promotional match is organised by the All India Football Federation in association with the Government of Uttar Pradesh, the Uttar Pradesh Football Sangh, and Krida Bharti. The aim is to help develop and promote football across the state.
Taking this opportunity, AIFF has initiated a plan to distribute 96,455 footballs in 75 districts in 21,551 schools through Navodaya Vidyalaya in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Government of India.
