The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday has arrested Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, in connection with alleged financial misconduct during his tenure at the establishment. This arrest is part of a broader investigation that includes inquiries into the rape and murder of a female doctor, alongside financial irregularities associated with Ghosh’s time as principal.
Ghosh had been questioned by the CBI for 15 days at their Salt Lake office regarding the rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at RG Kar Hospital on August 9. He was later escorted to the CBI’s Nizam Palace office in Kolkata, which houses the agency’s anti-corruption wing, where he was formally arrested.
The former deputy superintendent of R G Kar Hospital Dr Akhtar Ali had lodged complaints of financial irregularities on multiple counts at the establishment during Ghosh’s tenure as principal.
Sandip Ghosh had earlier resigned as the principal of RG Kar hospital. However, he was reinstated as the principal of the National Medical College and Hospital
The Indian Medical Association (IMA) had previously suspended Ghosh’s membership. He was the vice principal of the IMA Calcutta branch.
