Trade in fake mobile SIM boxes is spreading across India. Militants are behind it. According to the detectives, the phone calls going abroad from these illegal SIM boxes remain undetected. As a result, the militants are able to communicate with each other very easily. The mastermind behind it is a Bangladeshi. This is the claim of the security Forces who are monitoring this.
Odisha Police is approaching the national intelligence agencies regarding this international crime network, he said.
Earlier also in 2023 on August 11, a case was registered in Malipanchghara police station area of Howrah. Cases were filed under various sections including Telegraph Act, Wireless Telegraphy Act. The investigation of that case goes to the hands of the STF. A total of seven people including a Bangladeshi were arrested by the police. During the investigation of the incident, a set of SIM boxes was found in Swarupnagar, Basirhat, North 24 Parganas, bordering India-Bangladesh border area. In a special operation, the State’s Special Tax Force recovered 13 Simbox machines. Besides, about 600 Benami SIM cards and several internet routers were also seized by STF detectives. A 47-year-old man named Kabir Dafadar was arrested in the incident. The house of the arrested is in Daharkanda village on India-Bangladesh border in Swarupnagar police station area.
Detectives believe that this fake simbox business is now spreading from West Bengal to other states.
