At approximately 01:30 hours, Captain Gurvansh and his fiance were traveling in their vehicle in Bhuvneshwar, Odisha, when they were harassed by 12-13 individuals in three vehicles, engaging in rash driving and verbal abuse and pushing and scuffling. Gurvansh and Ankita managed to get out of the situation in their own vehicle.
Following the incident, the couple proceeded to Police Station Bharatpur to file a complaint as they have noted the Car registration number of individual engaged in rash driving. Upon arrival, they found only a lady ASI and a few other constables on duty, with no police station incharge present.
When the couple requested expedited action, The police started to make excuses that first get your medical done and our incharge is not here, when they come then only a complaint can be written. At 0245 hours the police patrol came back with 2 more lady officers and 4 male officers including 2 SIs.
The lady ASI on her duty hours was sitting in her nighty and was not listening.The lady constable was uncooperative and did not act upon their complaint and Miss Ankita and Lady SI entered into verbal fight where Miss Ankita told the lady SI that “I am citizen of India and you are public servant and you have to serve the people. You are wasting tax payers money and you should not do uniformed service.”
The lady SI used a slang language called Miss Ankita a ‘whore’ in Odia and told that it must take 1500 people to sexually satisfy you . The verbal scuffle between the both started. Captain Gurvansh started to make a video of the incident in his mobile phone showing the reluctance of police to take any action. This further agitated the police.
Meanwhile an SI of the station hands Captain Gurvansh a paper and pen to write down the statement and scuffle between Miss Ankita and Police SI continued. All of a sudden 4 cops nabbed Captain Gurvansh and stripped him of all his belongings and put him illegally inside a cell. At the same time two lady officers grabbed Miss Ankita from her hair and slapped her profusely.
All belongings of Captain Gurvansh including his phone and ID card were also taken. At 0300 Ankita was crying outside the cell of Captain Gurvansh. The couple continued to ask police for the reason why Captain Gurvansh was put illegally behind bars and the only answer in police station was our IIC will come and he will tell.
Miss Ankita at about 5 am managed to sneak out to her car and get her phone to Captain Gurvansh so that he call call the army officers for help. Meanwhile she went to the lady ASI and asked her to give the arrest warrant on which Captain Gurvansh was arrested. Miss Ankita even found and empty alcohol bottle in the police office when she was looking around for Captain Gurvansh’s phone. But police had no reason to put Captain Gurvansh behind bars. The lady SI started abusing on Miss Ankita’s character and miss Ankita also in return started screaming at ASI. The lady ASI at about 6 O’clock pushed and slapped miss Ankita and miss Ankita tried to run away but 3 lady officers held miss Ankita by her hair started to drag her towards a secluded room. Miss Ankita tried to get out of their hands but they continued to kick her and bash her. In the secluded room there were two male constables and they removed her jacket and tied her hands behind her back and other female SI tied her legs with her own cloth. miss Ankita continued to shout for help when lying half naked with male police in the station. They continued to beat her up and stomp her. One of the male SIs entered the room and removed Miss Ankita’ s bra and stomped her breast with his feet. They continued to character assassinate her and abuse her. At 6:15 am the IIC enters the room and abuses miss Ankita. Further the lady SI removes Miss Ankita’s pants and IIC removes his pants and shows his penis to miss Ankita and says that this is what you need to keep your mouth shut. And he threatened to rape her if she doesn’t keep quiet. After some time IIC come to Captain Gurvansh and releases him and asks him to file a complaint against earlier incident. Captain Gurvansh rushes first to Miss Ankita and found her in half naked state with hands and legs tied and blood spilled around.
A party of one JCO and three OR from 120 TA Battalion was dispatched to police station and help Captain Gurvansh. The couple requested the police for medical examination wherein they were first denied the same however on persistence request they were taken to Sum hospital and where it was confirmed that Miss Ankita’s jaw has been dislocated, nose broken and several other wound marks on the body. They were taken in evening to police station where fake charges were filed against Miss Ankita and she was arrested. On the way to take her to magistrate, the police even tried to tamper with the evidence and took her for medical examination again where no one listened and examined Miss Ankita and a report was given to police siting no major injuries.
