Assam Rifles organized a series of events across the districts of Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal, and Chandel to commemorate World Environmental Health Day on 26 September 2024. The activities were aimed at raising awareness about environmental health, climate change mitigation, and fostering a cleaner, greener environment.
Events in Imphal East, Imphal West, and Thoubal included lectures on the significance of tree plantation and cleanliness, along with environmental health awareness sessions. The Assam Rifles, in collaboration with local communities at Mantripukhri and Company Operating Bases Lilong, Thoubal, Singjamei, and Chandrakong, conducted tree plantation drives and cleanliness campaigns. These initiatives were well-received, with active participation from volunteers and local residents, emphasizing the importance of collective action to improve environmental sustainability.
Simultaneously, in Chandel District, Assam Rifles battalions conducted events in Sehlon, Old Samtal, New Samtal, Tuitong, Kovang, Phoilen, Kachinbung, and Aibol Joupi villages. The day’s activities included cleanliness drives, environmental and health lectures, awareness rallies, cultural performances, and school engagement programs such as painting competitions. Approximately 750 locals, including children, took part in these events, which also featured a medical check-up for the villagers.
As part of the tree plantation initiative, an impressive number of 1,500 saplings were planted across Chandel, while a similar number of saplings were planted in the Imphal and Thoubal districts during tree planting events at multiple locations. The day symbolized a collective commitment to combat climate change and promote environmental conservation, reaffirming Assam Rifles’ dedication to working alongside local communities in creating a sustainable future.
ASSAM RIFLES EXTENDS LIFE-SAVING MEDICAL AID TO A SNAKE BITE VICTIM
Assam Rifles provided critical life-saving medical aid in Thoubal district of Manipur.
On 26 September 2024, Assam Rifles medical staff rendered immediate assistance to Mrs. Shabana, a 38-year-old resident of Lilong Khong Manung, who was bitten by a poisonous snake while working at her residence. Upon examination, the medical team identified a snake bite and administered anti-snake venom along with other necessary medications. The patient was later referred to the District Hospital in Thoubal for further treatment. The prompt intervention by the Assam Rifles medical team was crucial in stabilizing her condition and preventing further complications.
ASSAM RIFLES CONDUCTED FRIENDLY VOLLEYBALL MATCHES IN MANIPUR
The Assam Rifles conducted friendly volleyball matches for the villagers of Hoyang & Yentem village in Ukhrul district of Manipur. This is in continuation to the efforts undertaken by Assam Rifles to foster the spirit of sportsmanship among the local populace and thereby encouraging them to stay away from the scourge of Insurgency.
50 enthusiastic locals of Hoyang & Yentem village actively participated in the friendly volleyball matches. The village team won the final match by winning two sets out of three sets played. The winner village team was felicitated in prize distribution ceremony and refreshments were catered for all the attendees.
The village authorities and villagers expressed their appreciation towards Assam Rifles for conducting such entertaining and relevant activity for them.
