In observance of Gandhi Jayanti and under the aegis of the Swachh Bharat Mission, Assam Rifles conducted multiple cleanliness drives across continuation of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and commemorating Gandhi Jayanti, Assam Rifles conducted extensive cleanliness drives under the “Swachhta Hi Seva” campaign on October 2, 2024 across multiple districts in Manipur, including Imphal West, Thoubal, Kangpokpi, Chandel, and Tengnoupal. These efforts, encompassing villages such as Sadu Chiru, Joupi, and localities in Moreh and Tulimjang, witnessed participation from over 900 civilians, students, and Assam Rifles personnel.
Mahatma Gandhiji’s believed that cleanliness is not just a responsibility but a key to health and dignity. His vision of Swachhta was deeply tied to the empowerment of communities and respect for the environment. By actively participating in cleanliness drives, Assam Rifles honoured his enduring legacy, emphasizing that sustainable change begins with collective action towards a cleaner, healthier future.
At Sadu Chiru Village located in Kangpokpi district, Company Operating Base Chandrakong, Lilong of Thoubal district, Singjamei and Mantripukhri, Imphal West district of Manipur, the drive aimed to promote cleanliness and environmental sustainability, resonating with the ethos of the Swacch Bharat Mission. Approx 100 civiliand and Assam Rifles Troops participated actively in the event.
In Moreh, Assam Rifles, together with the Moreh Youth Club (MYC), initiated extensive cleanliness drives in Chongjang and N Gangpijang villages on October 2, 2024. These efforts focused on improving waste management, raising awareness about personal and community hygiene, and eliminating open defecation practices. Over 100 participants, including troops and local residents, came together to clean public spaces and promote a cleaner environment.
In a separate drive on 1 October 2024, Assam Rifles organized the Safai Mitra Suraksha Shivir in Govajang Village and Home Guard Veng, Moreh, to educate villagers on the significance of hygiene and sanitation. The event featured a lecture followed by a joint cleanliness drive, strengthening bonds between security forces and the local populace.
Simultaneously, in Churachandpur District, Assam Rifles spearheaded a Swachh Bharat Mission campaign in Tulimjang Village and S Kholen, Hanglep Subdivision, on October 2, 2024. Community members, students, and Assam Rifles personnel united to clean their surroundings, followed by an awareness session on sanitation and hygiene. The interactive campaign reinforced unity and collaboration between Assam Rifles and the local communities.
At Joupi in Chandel district, the drive involved the active participation of 478 Assam Rifles personnel, local civilians, and students, all coming together to promote the importance of cleanliness and hygiene. In addition to the cleanliness drive, a pledge ceremony was conducted where participants reaffirmed their commitment to the cause of Swachh Bharat.
These initiatives were a fitting tribute to the Father of the Nation, whose vision of cleanliness and community well-being continues to inspire the nation.
ASSAM RIFLES FOSTERS COMMUNITY BONDING THROUGH VOLLEYBALL
On October 1, 2024, Assam Rifles organized a friendly volleyball match at Church Hill, Singhat. The event drew enthusiastic participation with 60 students (52 boys and 8 girls) from local schools at Singhat.The initiative aims to promote community engagement, teamwork, and sportsmanship among youth. The efforts strengthened civil-military ties and inspired youth for peace and harmony with increased mutual co-operation.
