Vigilant troops of the Border Security Force (BSF), South Bengal Frontier apprehended a transport agent with large amount of illegal currency during routine checks at the Integrated Check Post (ICP) Petrapole. Jawans from the 145 Battalion BSF seized 17,560 Bangladeshi Taka and ₹3,48,204 Indian Rupees from the accused, identified as Sudip Majumder.
The incident took place on 04 October 2024, when an Indian truck carrying an import consignment from Bangladesh arrived for security clearance at ICP Petrapole. During search of the vehicle, a suspicious black bag was discovered in the Truck’s front cabin. The bag contained undeclared foreign and Indian currency.
During interrogation, Majumder admitted that the Indian currency was collected from fish merchants in Kolkata for the purpose of purchasing fish from Bangladeshi importers. However, he was unable to provide any legal documentation for the funds.
