Indian Army Arena Polo team clinches the US Military team in a closely contested test match

The Indian Army who are always made more than a billion people of the Motherland feel safe by guarding India’s International borders with their selfless sacrifice and dedication has also been very prominent with its contribution towards sports helping the country provide some of the best athletes on the global stage.

The Indian Army arena polo team delivered a gritty performance, defeating the US Military in a thrilling test match, marking their first international engagement since 2019.

The match ended with a score of 13-10 in favour of the Indian team, which included Lt Col Prithvi Singh Rathore,
Lt Col Yatinder Kumar, Maj Mrityunjay Singh, and Lt Col RK Gautam.It was held at Lakeside Polo Club.

Maj Mrityunjay, despite sustaining an injury during the second chukker, continued to compete until the fourth chukker, before being substituted by Gautam.

Arena polo, while quite similar to the outdoor version is played on 300 feet by 150 feet field, enclosed by a wall of four or more feet in height. The regular polo is played on a 10-acre field with just the boundary lines and no walls.

A normal game of polo consists of four chukkas of seven-and-a-half minutes each. The arena game is played on a dirt surface with the ball bouncing on the uneven surface and off the arena wall.

Despite playing an international arena polo match after five years, the Indian officers showed great zeal and hard work to beat the experienced US officers. The match was evenly played but the Indian officers emerged winners with a three-point lead after four chukkers.
