Ratan Tata, the esteemed chairman emeritus of Tata Sons, passed away on October 9, 2024, at the age of 86 after a brief hospitalization in Mumbai. He had been receiving treatment for age-related health issues at Breach Candy Hospital.
Tata was instrumental in transforming the Tata Group into a global powerhouse, overseeing significant acquisitions like Jaguar Land Rover and launching the Tata Nano, aimed at affordable mobility for Indian families.
His death has prompted widespread mourning across India, with tributes highlighting his visionary leadership and philanthropic efforts.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled Ratan Tata death, In a post on X PM Modi wrote,” Shri Ratan Tata Ji was a visionary business leader, a compassionate soul and an extraordinary human being. He provided stable leadership to one of India’s oldest and most prestigious business houses. At the same time, his contribution went far beyond the boardroom. He endeared himself to several people thanks to his humility, kindness and an unwavering commitment to making our society better.”
Industralist Anand Mahindra, chairman of Mahindra Group, expressed disbelief and highlighted Tata’s mentorship during critical economic times. Indian a post on X, Anand Mahindra wrote, ” I am unable to accept the absence of Ratan Tata. India’s economy stands on the cusp of a historic leap forward. And Ratan’s life and work have had much to do with our being in this position.Hence, his mentorship and guidance at this point in time would have been invaluable. With him gone, all we can do is to commit to emulating his example. Because he was a businessman for whom financial wealth and success was most useful when it was put to the service of the global community. Goodbye and Godspeed, Mr. T You will not be forgotten. Ratan Tata who served the chairman of Tata Group and Tata Sons from 1990 to 2012, and then as interim chairman from October 2016 through February 2017.
Indian 2000, Ratan Tata received the Padma Bhushan and in 2008, Government of India awarded him the second highest civilian honours Padma Vibhushan.
The mortal remains of Ratan Tata would be taken to the NCPA lawns at 10:30 am for the public to pay their last respects.
At 3.30pm, the mortal remains will be taken for final rites.
