National Unity Day is celebrated in India on 31st October. It was introduced by the Government of India in 2014. The day is celebrated to mark the birth anniversary of Vallabhbhai Patel who had a major role in the political integration of India. This occasion provides us with an excellent opportunity to reinforce our commitment to strengthen the security, unity and integrity of the Nation.
As 31st October, 2024 is a closed holiday on account of Kali Puja and Deepavali, Metro Railway, Kolkata has observed Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) today to commemorate the 149th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.. Shri Asim Kumar Majumdar, Principal Chief Electrical Engineer, Metro Railway administered the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas pledge to officers, staff of Metro Railway at Metro Rail Bhavan. Metro officers and staff vowed to preserve the unity, integrity and security of the nation. Shri Majumdar encouraged all officers and employees to dedicate themselves to the ideals of unity and integrity, embodying the vision and actions of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, whose legacy is commemorated on this day.
As part of this programme, a ‘Run for Unity’ from Metro Rail Bhavan to Maidan and back was organized. The rally witnessed enthusiastic participation from a diverse group, including Railway employees, Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel, sports personalities and senior railway officials.
Rashtriya Ekta Diwas pledge was also taken at all the stations of Blue Line, Green Line-1, Green Line-2, Purple Line and Orange Line and at RPF Barracks.
