The Shillong boy Steve Jyrwa, has emerged as the champion of India’s Best Dancer Season 4, marking a significant achievement for both himself and the arts community in Meghalaya. His victory was celebrated not only for his exceptional talent but also for the inspiring journey he undertook to reach this point.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma celebrated Jyrwa’s success on X.  In a post on X, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma wrote. ” Steve Jyrwa of Shillong danced his way into the hearts of the people of India and is now champion of India’s Best Dancer! Congratulations Steve, may your talent yield many more achievements!”

Background and Journey

Steve’s story is particularly remarkable as he faced significant challenges in his early life, including a period when he was unable to walk. His determination and the unwavering support of his family, especially his mother and grandmother, played a crucial role in his success. Reflecting on his journey, Steve expressed gratitude for their encouragement, stating, “This win is not just mine; it’s for everyone who believed in me”.

The Finale

In the grand finale held on November 10, 2024, Steve outperformed fellow finalists Harsh Keshri, Nextion, Nepo, Akanksha Mishra, and Aditya Malviya. His performance was characterized by rapid footwork and raw energy, which captivated both the judges and the audience. Judge Karisma Kapoor praised him for setting a new standard with his performances.

Steve won not only the trophy but also a cash prize of ₹15 lakh and a car. His choreographer, Raktim Thakuria, received ₹5 lakh as recognition for their collaborative efforts.

Following his victory, Steve expressed excitement about continuing to hone his dance skills and participating in more dance reality shows. He aims to explore various dance styles beyond his specialty in hip-hop and footwork. His win is seen as an inspiration for many aspiring dancers from underprivileged backgrounds in Meghalaya, highlighting the potential for success through hard work and dedication.

She felt overwhelmed by the achievement, which marked a significant milestone not only for Steve but also for their family.When Steve’s name was announced as the winner, both his mother and grandmother were thrilled. Steve dedicated his win to them, highlighting their crucial role in his life and recovery from childhood challenges. He shared that seeing the happiness in his grandmother’s eyes was particularly meaningful, stating, “It was a blessing that I was the reason for that”.

Steve reflected on how this victory served as a response to relatives who doubted his decision to pursue dance, reinforcing that hard work and dedication can lead to success. He noted, “This achievement is very important for me… I have proved them wrong” .
