India defeated Australia by 295 runs in the first Test of Border Gavaskar Trophy

India achieved a historic victory over Australia by 295 runs in the first Test of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy at Perth’s Optus Stadium. This win marks Australia’s first-ever Test defeat at this venue, where they previously held an unbeaten record.

India set a daunting target of 534 runs, with standout performances from Yashasvi Jaiswal (161) and Virat Kohli (100 not out). 

Jasprit Bumrah had an outstanding performance in the first Test against Australia, claiming a total of 8 wickets for 72 runs. In the first innings, he took 5 wickets for 30 runs, leading to Australia’s collapse for just 104 runs.

In the second innings, he added 3 wickets for 42 runs, including the crucial dismissal of Travis Head, who was batting well at 89. Bumrah’s exceptional bowling was pivotal in securing India’s historic 295-run victory, earning him the Player of the Match award.
