Ministry of Tribal Affairs remains steadfast in its mission to empower tribal communities by preserving and promoting their vibrant art, culture, and heritage. In keeping with this commitment, the Ministry has sanctioned token financial grant under the “Support to TRI” scheme for the 25th edition of the Hornbill Festival, marking a significant milestone in its history.

Held annually from December 1 to 10 in Nagaland, the Hornbill Festival, often referred to as the “Festival of Festivals,” is a grand celebration of the state’s cultural diversity. Named after the hornbill, a revered bird in Nagaland’s folklore, the festival unites the state’s various ethnic groups to celebrate their shared traditions and customs.

A Quarter-Century of Celebration

Since its inception in 2000, the Hornbill Festival has been a cornerstone of Nagaland’s cultural calendar, highlighting the traditions of a state where over 60% of the population depends on agriculture. Celebrated at the Naga Heritage Village in Kisama, 12 km from the state capital, the festival showcases a unique blend of traditions, underscoring the importance of community and unity.

Union Minister of Tribal Affairs, Shri Jual Oram, emphasized the significance of this event:

“Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Ministry of Tribal Affairs is proud to support this iconic festival. It not only celebrates Nagaland’s rich heritage but also strengthens the bonds of unity among its tribes.”

A Vibrant Cultural Showcase

The Hornbill Festival is a vibrant amalgamation of Nagaland’s music, dance, art, and cuisine, offering visitors an immersive cultural experience.

A Platform for Global Recognition

Now in its 25th year, the Hornbill Festival has grown into a major attraction for domestic and international tourists alike, providing a unique opportunity to experience Nagaland’s cultural wealth while promoting its traditions to the global stage.

This Silver Jubilee celebration promises to be a testament to Nagaland’s enduring cultural vibrancy and the Ministry’s commitment to tribal empowerment and heritage preservation.
