In a decisive effort to combat illegal activities, the Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the villagers of Saibol Joupi, TM Dingpi, and T Bollon, successfully cleared approximately 2 square kilometers of poppy cultivation. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to promote community health and societal well-being.
The operation follows extensive awareness programs conducted by the Assam Rifles, aimed at educating local communities about the detrimental effects of poppy cultivation. These initiatives inspired villagers to take a proactive stance against illegal farming, demonstrating their commitment to fostering a safer and healthier environment.
“This collaboration exemplifies the united resolve of both security forces and local communities in addressing the challenges posed by illegal cultivation,” stated an Assam Rifles spokesperson. The operation not only disrupted the supply chain associated with illicit activities but also paved the way for a more peaceful and progressive future for the region.
The Assam Rifles expressed appreciation for the active involvement of the villagers, highlighting the growing cooperation between communities and security forces in ensuring development and stability in Northeast India.
Assam Rifles under the aegis of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (South) conducted a Medical Aid Camp as part of Operation Sadbhavana at Kangvai village, Churachandpur district on 07 December 2024.
The initiative was aimed to promote health and well-being among the internally displaced persons and neighburing villagers, while also bolstering greater harmony and trust between the Assam Rifles and the local communities. The medical camp catered for the necessary medical assistance to women, children, men and the elderly from neighbouring villages, as well as for internally displaced persons who are residing in nearby relief camps with minimal access to medical facilities in such challenging times. The camp offered comprehensive medical check-ups and provision of medications. A dedicated team of Assam Rifles doctors including Dental Surgeon along with Medical Specialist, Paediatric Specialist, Dermatologist, Orthopedic Surgeon and Gynaecologist from Churachandpur Medical College provided the medical assistance to ensure all possible healthcare services are available at one place during the camp. In addition all sections of the society also assisted in paramedical and logistical support which assisted towards the success of the medical camp.
Moreover, the camp extended support beyond mere consultation. Individuals suffering from various conditions including Diabetes, Hypertension, Asthma, Abdomen pain, URTI and Fever were provided with medications and bedridden patients were provided with essential medical equipment such as lumbar belts, crutches and rehabilitation materials. The medical camp commenced early morning and continued till late afternoon witnessing an overwhelming response from the villagers. An impressive 532 locals including 112 elderly, 182 children, 149 women and 89 men benefitted from the services provided.
The villagers expressed profound gratitude towards the Assam Rifles for their efforts in facilitating access to medical equipment and comprehensive healthcare services.
ASSAM RIFLES HONOURS BRAVEHEART RIFLEMAN (LATE) LAPKA DAMDUM WITH WREATH-LAYING CEREMONY
The Assam Rifles conducted a solemn wreath-laying ceremony on 08 Dec 2024, to honour the memory of Rifleman (Late) Lapka Damdum, who made the supreme sacrifice during an operation against Naga insurgents on this date in 1956 at Longkhim, Tuensang, Nagaland. His bravery and dedication epitomize the motto of the Assam Rifles: “Nation Before Self.”
The ceremony commenced with a heartfelt wreath-laying tribute, attended by over 200 personnel from the Assam Rifles. Following the tribute, a motivational address was delivered, recounting the heroic story of Rfn Damdum and other valiant soldiers who have selflessly served the nation.
This commemorative event serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by soldiers in the line of duty and reinforces the commitment of the Assam Rifles to honour their legacy.
ASSAM RIFLES HOSTS FINALS OF LATE SEPOY NICHOLAS MOYON MEMORIAL FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT
The Assam Rifles successfully organized the finals of the Late Sepoy Nicholas Moyon (1st Naga Regt) Memorial Football Tournament at the Ziontlang Football Ground from 02-07 December 2024. The event was held in collaboration with the District Sports Association, Chandel, and highlighted the vibrant football culture of the region with participation from 21 teams.
The tournament served as a vital platform for young talent to showcase their skills while fostering unity and camaraderie within the community. The finals attracted an enthusiastic audience of approximately 250 spectators, who witnessed an exhilarating match where Cheengu FC emerged victorious over Khanku FC in a dramatic penalty shootout.
Dignitaries who witnessed the finals included family of Late Sepoy Nicholas Moyon, Shri Khongbantabam Ibomcha, MLA Lamlai (Chief Guest), along with the Deputy Inspector General of Sector Headquarter, Assam Rifles and Miss Grace Dangmei, Indian National Football Team member, as Special Guest. Ex-commanding officers, veterans, and also graced the event.
This tournament not only celebrated the legacy of Late Sepoy Nicholas Moyon but also reinforced the importance of sports in promoting community spirit and nurturing local talent.
