The vigilant personnel of the South Bengal Frontier of the Border Security Force (BSF) thwarted multiple smuggling and illegal infiltration attempts along the India-Bangladesh international border in West Bengal. In a series of operations across North 24 Parganas, Nadia, Murshidabad, and Malda districts, BSF troops pushed back 13 illegal Bangladeshi intruders, seized 1,236 bottles of banned Phensedyl, rescued 18 cattle, and apprehended three Bangladeshi cattle smugglers red-handed.

On January 14, 2025, during the second shift of duty at BOP Charmurashi, BSF personnel noticed suspicious movement of 6-8 individuals carrying small packets and sharp edge weapons, advancing rapidly toward the international border. The vigilant troops immediately challenged the smugglers. However, the miscreants ignored the warnings and aggressively moved forward. To disperse them, a stun grenade was deployed, but the smugglers retaliated with sharp weapons, endangering the jawan’s lives. In self-defense, a BSF jawans fired six rounds in short intervals in safe direction, causing the smugglers to flee under the cover of darkness and fog. A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of 95 bottles of banned Phensedyl.

In another operation in Nadia district, under the Krishnanagar sector, BSF troops from BOP Noonaganj, in collaboration with local police, apprehended three Bangladeshi cattle traffickers with three cows in their possession.

On the same day, BSF troops pushed back 10 illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators in North 24 Parganas and three in Malda district. Interrogations revealed that these individuals were attempting to enter India to seek labor and housekeeping jobs in cities like Mumbai and Bengaluru. In a series of anti-narcotics operations, BSF troops seized a total of 1,236 bottles of banned Phensedyl, a cough syrup often misused as a narcotic.

The arrested cattle smugglers were handed over to Hanskhali police, while the seized contraband was transferred to the concerned authorities for legal proceedings. The rescued cattle, after being e-tagged, will be handed over to the Dhyan Foundation for care and rehabilitation.

The Public Relations Officer of South Bengal Frontier said that BSF is taking strict measures to stop smuggling on the India-Bangladesh border. Due to this, people involved in such crimes are not able to succeed in their plans. The officer further said that we will not allow smuggling from our area under any circumstances.
