In a major breakthrough, the vigilant personnel of the Border Security Force (BSF) South Bengal Frontier successfully thwarted multiple smuggling attempts along the India-Bangladesh international border in the districts of North 24 Parganas, Nadia, Murshidabad, and Malda, West Bengal. During these operations, BSF personnel seized 12.530 kg of silver jewellery, 691 bottles of banned Phensedyl, 22.850 kg of ganja, 110 grams of suspected narcotics, 460 units of Clop G ointment, 45 mobile phones, two two-wheelers, and rescued eight cattle from smugglers.
On 18 January 2025, at 10:45 am, during routine first-shift checks at the border outpost Bithari under the 143rd Battalion, deployed on the India-Bangladesh border in North 24 Parganas district, BSF jawans observed a man approaching on a scooty. Upon noticing the alert presence of BSF personnel, the individual abandoned the scooty and fled from the scene.The jawans acted swiftly, secured the scooty, and conducted a thorough search. They found a brown packet concealed in the footrest area of the scooty. Upon inspection, it was found to contain silver jewellery. Further examination revealed additional silver jewellery hidden inside the scooty’s oil tank. The total weight of the recovered silver jewellery was 12.530 kg, with an estimated market value of ₹ 9.86 lakh.
All confiscated items have been handed over to the relevant authorities for further legal proceedings. The rescued cattle will be e-tagged and handed over to the Dhyan Foundation.
Public Relations Officer of South Bengal Frontier said that BSF is taking strict measures to stop smuggling along the Indo-Bangladesh border and is fully alert to thwart any attempt of illegal infiltration.
