The BSF Meghalaya apprehended five Bangladeshi smugglers and successfully thwarted various smuggling attempts along the international border

On 20th January 2025, troops of BSF Meghalaya Frontier successfully apprehended five Bangladeshi nationals and thwarted multiple attempts to smuggle various contraband items to Bangladesh through the international border. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, 200 Bn BSF troops launched an operation in South Garo Hills and apprehended five Bangladeshi nationals, namely:(i) Md. Sakibul Basir, Age – 20 years, S/o Giasuddin, R/o Village – Aqua Morolpara, District – Mymensingh, Bangladesh(ii) Adnan Mahamod Rohim, Age – 22 years, S/o Md. Badal Mia, District – Mymensingh, Bangladesh(iii) Sojib Ahamed, Age – 17 years, S/o Siraj Ahmed, District – Mymensingh, Bangladesh(iv) Md. Sakib Hussain, Age – 19 years, S/o Jamshed Mia, District – Mymensingh, Bangladesh(v) Md. Saju, Age – 27 years, S/o Md. Alom Hossain, District – Mymensingh, Bangladesh

 

In addition, several other operations were carried out in East Khasi Hills (EKH) and West Khasi Hills (WKH). During these operations, a substantial haul of illegal goods was intercepted, including cattle, sugar, blankets, cumin zeera, liquor, and other contraband items. The total value of the seized items was estimated at ₹13.54 lakh.

 

The confiscated goods have been handed over to the relevant Customs offices and police stations for further investigation and legal action. These operations underscore the BSF’s unwavering dedication to securing the nation’s border and combating smuggling activities.
