ASSAM RIFLES CONDUCTS WREATH LAYING CEREMONY IN HONOUR OF BRAVEHEARTS

Assam Rifles organised a wreath laying ceremony at Sehlon, Chandel District in honour of Jemadar Lal Bahadur Viswakarma, Rfn Jit Bahadur Thapa, Rfn Sarbadhan Sunar and Rfn T K C Varkey who made the ultimate sacrifice displaying unwavering courage and dedication to duty despite facing overwhelming odds in intense Counter Insurgency Operation in Aizawl, Mizoram on March 2, 1966.

On the night of 28 February 1966, MNF rebels launched coordinated attacks on various strategic locations in Mizoram, including the district treasury at Aizawl and camps of Police. Subsequently, the rebels targeted the Assam Rifles Battalion Headquarter at Aizawl, aiming to disrupt the peace and stability of the region. A patrol party under Jem Lal Bahadur Vishwakarma was ambushed by MNF insurgents near a school wherein the patrol party faced heavy fire and suffered fatal casualties including Jem Lal Bahadur Viswakarma, Rfn Jit Bahadur Thapa, Rfn Sarbadhan Sunar and Rfn T K C Varkey.

The ceremony commenced with wreath laying senior Assam Rifles officials who narrated the tale of the bravehearts to infuse pride and honour in the force. Over 120 Assam Rifles personnel paid tribute by laying wreaths & honouring the martyrs.

ASSAM RIFLES ENHANCE HYGIENE AND SANITATION FACILTIES OF SCHOOL IN MANIPUR

In a significant step towards improving the hygiene and sanitation conditions, Assam Rifles inaugurated a toilet complex for girls at the Hand of God Residential School, Gwaltabi in Kangpokpi District on 02 March 2025.

This initiative is a part of the Assam Rifles’ ongoing efforts to promote socio-economic development in the region. The newly inaugurated toilet is a much-needed infrastructure improvement at the school.

This facility will significantly improve hygiene, safety and comfort for girl students, thus creating a better learning environment.

WEEK-LONG CELEBRATIONS FOR INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY BEGIN AT IGAR (SOUTH)

On 02 March 2025, IGAR (South) kicked off a week-long celebration for International Women’s Day with a Treasure Hunt Game for families of the garrison, bringing them together in an atmosphere of fun and camaraderie.

As part of the event, a newly constructed Wooden Bridge was inaugurated, symbolising strength, connection and progress. In a meaningful gesture of inclusivity, the bridge was inaugurated by a young achiever from the community, highlighting the spirit of empowerment and collective growth.

With this successful start, IGAR (South) reaffirms its commitment to honouring the contributions of women and kindling a sense of unity throughout the celebrations.
