Assam Rifles organised Tree Plantation Drive in association with the village authorities of Wanglee village in Kamjong district of Manipur on 3 Mar 2025.
The event is being organised as a part of World Wildlife Day being undertaken by the Assam Rifles. The state of Manipur is blessed with abundant natural resources and good forest cover, however the illegal trade of natural resources especially forest produce like timber had led to large scale deforestation and environmental degradation. The drive was undertaken in order to create awareness among the local youth about the same.
A total of 25 locals including 04 representatives of the Wanglee village council actively participated in the Tree Plantation Drive, where in a total of 350 saplings were planted during the drive in the public spaces of the village and along the Wanglee-Kasong road.
The locals including the village authorities expressed their appreciation towards Assam Rifles for their efforts in nature conservation.
ASSAM RIFLES, BSF & MANIPUR POLICE ERADICATE ILLICIT POPPY CULTIVATION IN MANIPUR
Acting on credible intelligence, Assam Rifles, in a joint operation with Manipur Police and the Border Security Force (BSF), eradicated 20 acres of illicit poppy cultivation in Khudai Khullen, Chelep, Tengnoupal District 03 March 2025.
The coordinated effort involved extensive surveillance and ground action to destroy the illicit crops, reinforcing commitment to combat drug-related activities in the region.
