Mega Ex-Servicemen Rally Held at Lebong Military Station, Darjeeling

The Mega Ex-Servicemen Rally was successfully conducted at Lebong Military Station, Darjeeling on 17 March 2025 under the aegis of Trishakti Corps. The event witnessed an overwhelming response, with 6,747 attendees, including 3,956 ex-servicemen, 97 war veterans, 51 Veer Naris, 274 widows, and 2,351 dependents of ex-servicemen. Many traveled in specially arranged convoys from remote areas like Rimbik, Kurseong, Darjeeling, and surrounding regions to participate in this grand event.

The rally served as a platform to honor the invaluable contributions of veterans and acknowledge their sacrifices in safeguarding the nation. It also provided an opportunity to address their welfare concerns, offer updates on various initiatives, and facilitate interaction with government and military organizations supporting them.

To assist the veterans, several key organizations set up facilitation counters for documentation, pensions, and banking services. These included Record Offices, PCDA (Allahabad), CDA (Patna), ECHS (Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme) Office, Zila Sainik Board Darjeeling, Advocate & Notary Counters, CAPF Recruitment Office (organized by CISF), NGO “Support Our Heroes,” and 10 major banking institutions.

A comprehensive medical camp was organized with 36 doctors, including specialists in medicine, surgery, and gynecology. Additionally, a specialized eye screening camp was conducted by seven ophthalmologists. Over 1,700 individuals received free medicines from the Military Hospital, ECHS, District Hospital, Cantonment Board, and empaneled hospitals, ensuring necessary healthcare support for veterans and their families.

The event also featured spectacular displays of martial arts and cultural heritage. Highlights included an unarmed combat display by the Army Martial Arts Association and traditional cultural performances by local troupes. The military pipe band and jazz band added to the patriotic atmosphere, filling the air with stirring tunes. To ensure a warm and welcoming experience, free breakfast, tea, and lunch were provided to all attendees.

A senior Army official remarked on the significance of the rally, emphasizing the Indian Army’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of its veterans. He expressed gratitude for their service and stressed the importance of continued support to ex-servicemen and their families.

The Mega Ex-Servicemen Rally at Darjeeling achieved several remarkable milestones. It marked the largest-ever attendance recorded for an ESM rally in the region and the biggest medical camp with multi-specialty consultations. The event also saw the felicitation of all present Veer Naris, Gallantry Awardees, and War Veterans. Employment opportunities were provided to 27 dependents, while financial aid for medical treatment was granted to four non-pensioner ex-servicemen. A total of ₹5.5 Lakhs in CSR and financial contributions were made by SBI, Civil Hospital, and NGOs. Additionally, seven dependents were assured lifetime free ration by Support Our Heroes, and 472 grievances were recorded for further resolution.

The rally concluded on a high note, fostering a sense of camaraderie, unity, and mutual respect between the serving personnel and ex-servicemen. The event was a resounding success, reaffirming the Indian Army’s dedication to its veterans and their families.
