In West Bengal’s Nadia district, Bangladeshi intruders once again staged a violent attack on BSF men on duty in an attempt to cross the Indo-Bangladesh International Border under the South Bengal Frontier of BSF. The brave Jawans at the border outpost Mahendra of 194 Battalion of BSF on Indo-Bangladesh International Border bravely faced this deadly attack. Despite the adverse situation the Jawans maintained their composure and successfully thwarted the infiltration attempt. When forced by the criminals, Jawans had to open fire in self-defense, driving all infiltrators back into Bangladesh. In a bold successful attempt to thwart this attempt of forced infiltration, a BSF jawan was also seriously injured in the attack by the criminals.

According to reports, on the night of April 3, at around 02:15 AM, during the second shift of duty at the Mahendra Border Outpost of the BSF’s 194 Battalion, Jawans noticed some suspicious armed Bangladeshi infiltrators attempting to cross the border. These infiltrators were moving swiftly towards the border fencing. The alert BSF personnel immediately warned their fellow Jawans and challenged the infiltrators to stop. However, the Bangladeshi infiltrators ignored the warning and continued rushing toward the fence. Assessing the gravity of situation and avoiding unnecessary use of force the Jawan fired a round of PAG to deter and disperse them. However, the criminals remained unaffected and instead, surrounded the Jawan with the intent to incapacitate him, attacking him from multiple directions with sharp-edged weapons. As a result of this assault Jawan suffered serious head injuries. During the incident, other BSF personnel on duty, who were about 100-125 meters away, immediately rushed to the spot for assistance. Seeing the increasing number of fearless BSF Jawans , the infiltrators panicked and fled back towards Bangladesh under the cover of darkness.

The injured jawan was immediately taken to the nearest health centre in Bagula, where he was provided with primary medical assistance. Subsequently, the medical officer of the 194 Battalion transferred him to Krishnanagar District Hospital where his condition remains stable.

In another incident, Bangladeshi infiltrators also attempted to cross the border at BOP Sundar of the same battalion. However, the vigilant jawans at this outpost successfully foiled the infiltration attempt. A FIR in this regard is being lodged at the concerned police station.

Speaking on the incident the spokesperson of BSF South Bengal Frontier stated that such incidents are not uncommon in the line of duty. BSF Jawans are carrying out their responsibilities with exceptional courage, vigilance and restraint. Border Guard, Bangladesh had been repeatedly apprised in this regard, by approaching BGB Comdrs at various levels. However, these criminal attempts and attack on BSF men have not decreased. He further added that to avoid unnecessary loss of any human life and grievous injuries, our Jawans have always exercised utmost restraint and avoided using live rounds. Criminals have misinterpreted this restraint and are testing our patience. However, one thing is certain our Jawans are fully capable of protecting the borders and ensuring the nation’s security under all circumstances.
