Alert troops of the South Bengal Frontier of BSF successfully thwarted multiple smuggling attempts along the India-Bangladesh border. In this intercept, the troops seized 2,817 bottles of Phensedyl, 21 kilograms of Ganja and 43 fish pin balls, with an estimated value of approximately ₹11 lakh. Additionally, they rescued two cattle from the clutches of smugglers. Four Bangladeshi smugglers were arrested on the spot, caught red-handed during the action.
Yesterday, on 27 April, the Jawans of BSF border outpost Gojhadanga of 102 battalion on the Indo-Bangladesh international border in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal received important information from secret sources that illegal items could be smuggled from the area of border outpost. On receiving the information, the Jawans increased their vigilance and prepared a special strategy and laid an ambush in the border area. At around 2.30 am, the alert Jawans saw 4 suspicious persons moving towards the international border from India to Bangladesh through the unfenced area. Showing promptness, the ambush team and the Jawans on duty cordoned off the area and arrested 4 Bangladeshi smugglers. 21 kg of Ganja and 24 liters of loose cough syrup including 364 bottles were recovered from their possession during search.
During interrogation, one of the arrested smugglers revealed that he is involved in the distribution and supply of narcotics like Ganja , Phensedyl and Yaba tablets in the Satkhira region of Bangladesh. Further questioning uncovered that he had been engaged in this illegal trade for the past five years, operating a wide network that included several carriers and laborers. On the night of 27 April 2025, he along with his three companions was trying to cross the international border with illegal items from the unfenced area of the border, taking advantage of darkness and high bushes. However, during this time, the vigilant BSF jawans, who were already lying in ambush, caught all the four Bangladeshi smugglers along with the smuggled items on the border itself.
During further interrogation, he also admitted that in January 2025 he was arrested by the 33rd Battalion of BGB in a case of Phensedyl smuggling and was released from Satkhira Jail in February 2025 after serving a sentence of 35 days. The arrested smugglers and recovered contrabands have been handed over to the concerned department for further legal action.
In other incidents on the same day, a total of 2,453 bottles of banned Phensedyl, 43 fish pin balls (estimated value around Rs 11 lakh) were seized in separate operations on the India-Bangladesh international border in Murshidabad, Malda and North 24 Parganas districts, and 2 cattle were also rescued from the clutches of smugglers.
The Public Relations Officer of the South Bengal Frontier, while providing details about the incident, stated that this is a good success in the campaign against drug abuse and to stop smuggling attempts on the India-Bangladesh border. Due to the alertness and quick action of BSF jawans, the morale of smugglers is continuously being broken, which is a big achievement for the BSF.
