The vigilant and alert jawans of Border Outpost Khandua, 71 Battalion, located along the India-Bangladesh international border under the BSF South Bengal Frontier, achieved a remarkable success by foiling a major smuggling attempt in Murshidabad district of West Bengal. During the operation, the jawans recovered 1.060 kg of Methaqualone (valued at approximately ₹3,18,00,000) and 100 grams of Heroin (worth around ₹20,00,000), thereby preventing the smuggling of narcotics with a total estimated value of ₹3,38,00,000 (Rupees three crore thirty-eight lakhs only).
Yesterday, on 4th May 2025, alert troops of BOP Khandua of 71 Battalion of Border Security Force, located on Indo-Bangladesh International Border in Murshidabad District of West Bengal, observed the movement of two suspicious individuals behind the Domination Line at about 2:30 am. The troops immediately warned them to stop by flashing torch light, but both the suspicious persons fled quickly towards the nearby village Atrosia. Despite the troops’ best efforts to apprehend them, the individuals managed to escape, taking advantage of the darkness and the cover provided by nearby houses.
Soon after the incident, BSF troops mounted a major search operation in the area. During the intensive sweep of the bushes and surrounding locations, the troops recovered a plastic bag. Upon opening the bag, they found two packets wrapped in brown tape. The first packet contained 10 small cellophane packets filled with a light yellow powder, which prima facie appeared to be a narcotic substance. The second packet contained two additional cellophane packets, one filled with brown powder and the other with light yellow powder. The recovered packets were immediately seized and sent for testing. Upon analysis, the substances tested positive as Heroin (100 grams) and Methaqualone (1.060 kg). The estimated value of the Heroin is ₹20,00,000, while the Methaqualone is valued at approximately ₹3,18,00,000.
The seized Narcotics have been duly handed over to the relevant authorities after completing all necessary legal formalities.
The Public Relations Officer of South Bengal Frontier, while providing details about the incident, stated that this is a significant success in the ongoing fight against drug abuse and efforts to prevent smuggling along the Indo-Bangladesh border. All the credit goes to courageous BSF jawans, who remain vigilant day and night, fully dedicated to thwarting every smuggling attempt. Due to the alertness and quick action of the BSF jawans, the morale of smugglers is continuously being broken, which is a big achievement for the BSF.
