On the solemn occasion of the death anniversary of Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, Governor of West Bengal, Dr. C. V. Ananda Bose, paid rich tributes to the iconic military leader, recalling his unmatched service to the nation.
“Sam Bahadur, as he was fondly known, was not just the first Field Marshal of the Indian Army, but a symbol of courage, strategy, and nation-first leadership,” said the Governor. “He played a defining role in India’s historic military victory during the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War. His tactical brilliance led to the swift surrender of Pakistani forces and the birth of Bangladesh.”
Dr. Bose highlighted Sam Manekshaw’s forward-looking vision, particularly his advocacy for building a robust indigenous defence manufacturing base and implementing procurement reforms to reduce India’s dependence on foreign imports.
“Field Marshal Manekshaw was a soldier’s soldier and a statesman in uniform,” the Governor noted. “His life continues to inspire generations of armed forces personnel and citizens alike.”
Honoured with the Military Cross, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Vibhushan, Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw remains an enduring symbol of excellence, patriotism, and fearless leadership.
