To review the ops preparedness and to address the issues of Adm & logistics, a Field Commanders’ Conference was held at the Headquarters of SPL DG (Eastern Command), BSF Kolkata on July 4, 2025.

The high-level meeting was chaired by Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal, IPS, Additional Director General (EC), in which all the Inspector Generals of 06 Frontiers and 02 Training Institutions, alongside senior officers of HQ SPL DG (EC) participated in the conference.

The conference commenced with a warm welcome address by Sanjay Kumar Mishra, IG (Ops), who set the tone for the day by underlining the significance of cohesive command synergy and forward-leaning strategy.

During the conference, ADG (EC) expressed upon the importance of adaptive leadership, technological modernization, and local engagement in addressing the challenges of border management. The ADG directed the field formations to be prepared for all the contingencies in terms of Ops & Logistics. He tasked the comdrs to focus on pending land acquisition cases and to complete the same with a mission mode, so that fencing be erected at unfenced areas. He stressed upon effective border management at Sunderbans.

The ADG (EC) lauded the relentless commitment of field formations in mitigating trans-border crimes and in supporting border-area populations. He exhorted all commanders to “leave no stone unturned” in upholding border integrity and encouraged the adoption of cutting-edge surveillance technology to stay one step ahead of evolving threats. ADG emphasized that smart solutions, strategic foresight, and soldierly resolve must go hand-in-hand to secure our eastern frontier.

Key issues such as illegal migration, cattle smuggling, narcotics trafficking, and other trans-border crimes were discussed in depth. Special attention was paid to the ongoing law and order situation in Manipur, where BSF is playing a stabilizing role under challenging circumstances. The ADG underscored the value of joint ops with State Police, intelligence agencies, and central security forces, while also encouraging commanders to strengthen grassroots relationships with border communities, calling them “the invisible sentinels who amplify the force’s vigilance.” Enhanced cooperation with Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) was also deliberated as a cornerstone for enduring peace and cross-border security.

The conference also featured a detailed analysis of crime data and emerging trans-border trends, offering valuable insights into changing patterns of illegal migration, narcotics trafficking, and cattle smuggling. Several agenda points were discussed exhaustively, ranging from force modernization and infrastructure bottlenecks to coordination with civil authorities and welfare of border troops. ADG (EC) appreciated the professional commitment of all formations and urged commanders to “read between the lines” when analyzing data, to predict and preempt future threats.

The conference concluded with a gracious vote of thanks delivered by G. L. Meena, DIG (Adm). He expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Chair and all participants for their insights, active engagement, and dedication to national service.
