Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) successfully completed a much-anticipated and impactful yard layout correction at Fakiragram (FKM) station under Alipurduar division on 2nd July 2025.
The project was undertaken to optimize the yard layout, ensuring greater operational efficiency and smoother train handling. With exemplary dedication and expertise, the NFR team skilfully carried out the intricate modifications in the Panel Interlocking (PI) system, originally commissioned in 2005, achieving the desired results with excellence. This milestone reflects NFR unwavering focus on modernization and continuous enhancement of its infrastructure to better serve passengers and freight operations.
As part of the improvement, 782 new electrical contacts were seamlessly integrated, 28 routes were efficiently optimized and 3 additional routes were successfully introduced. Several signalling and telecommunication gears were also enhanced including the provision of 2 points, 4 upgraded track circuits along with the installation of a new high gain main signal to further strengthen operational excellence.
The completion of this work has significantly improved train operations at Fakiragram station. UP direction trains can now arrive and depart more smoothly and quickly, ensuring faster and more convenient services. The upgrade has reduced congestion, improved punctuality and streamlined movements within the station, enhancing passenger experience and enabling more efficient handling of goods traffic.
This modernization is expected to improve punctuality, provide greater operational flexibility and ensure safer more efficient train handling. NFR remains dedicated to upgrading its infrastructure to provide enhanced services for both passengers and freight customers.
