In the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, Bangladeshi smugglers once again attempted to forcibly smuggle contraband by attacking the vigilant jawans of the BSF South Bengal Frontier. The alert and courageous personnel of the 143 Battalion, deployed at Border Outpost Tarali-1, bravely confronted this deadly assault. Despite facing adverse conditions, the jawans exercised maximum restraint while firing in self-defence and successfully thwarted the smuggling attempt. During the operation, two smugglers were apprehended, and a total of 10 kg of ganja, 100 bottles of Phensedyl, and a sharp-edged dah were recovered from the site. A BSF jawan was injured in his left arm while defending against the miscreants who were using dah in the course of the operation.
According to the information received, the incident occurred around 01:50 AM, when a jawan on duty at the second-shift forward check post noticed three to four suspicious individuals approaching the international border carrying backloads. The alert jawan immediately informed his partner and swiftly advanced towards the suspects. He challenged them to stop, but they ignored the warning and turned aggressive, resorting to stone-pelting, verbal abuse, and flashing torchlights. Sensing the seriousness of the situation, the jawan fired a warning shot in the air using a PAG. However, the suspects became even more aggressive and closed in on the jawan, attacking him with a sharp weapon and causing injury. In the meantime, additional jawans arrived at the scene. Taking advantage of the darkness and the cover of nearby houses, the smugglers attempted to flee, but the vigilant jawans pursued them and successfully apprehended two suspects. A large quantity of narcotics and smuggled goods was recovered from the arrested individuals. A subsequent thorough search of the area led to the recovery of 100 bottles of Phensedyl and a sharp-edged weapon. The detained smugglers were taken to Border Outpost Tarali-1 for further interrogation.
The spokesperson for the BSF South Bengal Frontier stated that such incidents are not uncommon during their duties. Our jawans continue to perform their responsibilities with exceptional courage, dedication, and vigilance under such challenging conditions. Despite repeated flag meetings with the BGB to alert them about forced infiltrations and ongoing attacks by Bangladeshi criminals, no concrete action has been taken so far from their side. This inaction has even more emboldened the smugglers and criminals. However, BSF personnel remain fully capable of securing the borders and safeguarding the nation under all circumstances.
