Sealdah Division Observes Partition Horrors Remembrance Day with Solemn Tributes

Partition Horrors Remembrance Day is observed every year on 14th August to honor the memory of the victims and acknowledge the immense suffering endured during the Partition of India in 1947. The day serves as a reminder of the trauma, violence and mass displacement faced by millions during the division of India and Pakistan.

Sealdah Railway Station, a key transit point during the Partition, played a pivotal role in receiving refugees from East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) and remains a living witness to one of the largest human displacements in history. This year, the station observed the day with solemnity and respect through a series of commemorative activities.

The programme included a photo exhibition depicting the migration and struggles of refugees, a nukkad natak highlighting the historical impact of Partition, and documentary screenings aimed at educating younger generations about the human cost of this chapter in history.

The observance at Sealdah carried special significance, serving both as a tribute to those who endured unimaginable hardships and as a reminder to preserve the values of peace, unity, and compassion.
