Tata Steel World 25K Kolkata celebrates a decade of running glory

Tata Steel World 25K Kolkata, one of India’s biggest participative sporting celebrations, marks its glorious 10th anniversary this year. A Decade Strong, with countless runners and a nation inspired, this journey of impact and transformation truly embodies A Decade of Difference.

The World’s first World Athletics Gold Label Race, scheduled for Sunday, 21st December 2025, will showcase some of the fastest Indian and International athletes alongside thousands of amateur runners on Kolkata’s iconic Red Road.

Marking a decade of excellence, the Tata Steel World 25K Kolkata has grown far beyond the boundaries of a traditional road race. Over the past, it has consistently set new benchmarks in organisational excellence, championed equal opportunities for men and women, and reinforced the values of philanthropy and community engagement.

Today, running has become the fastest-growing sport in India. With an over 40% increase in the number of running clubs and running events, participation has surged, with 23% more women taking up distance running. By weaving Kolkata’s cultural heritage with the joy of running, the race has fuelled a vibrant fitness movement that continues to shape the city’s identity. This edition is not just a race, but a celebration of a decade of transformation, inclusivity, and inspiration.

Commenting on the occasion, D.B. Sundara Ramam, Vice President – Corporate Services, Tata Steel, said: “Tata Steel proudly celebrates ten years of the TSW25K Run, a landmark event that has become integral to Kolkata’s sporting and cultural fabric. Over the period, TSW25K has fostered a spirit of fitness, resilience and endurance. Resonating with the vibrant energy of Kolkata, the annual event brings together running enthusiasts from all walks of life. A celebration of running, passion and unity, TSW25K continues to go from strength to strength. I wish the 2025 edition great success.”

Adding sparkle to this year’s celebrations, Bhaichung Bhutia, former captain of the Indian football team fondly known as the ‘Sikkimese Sniper’, and Srabanti Chatterjee, one of Bengali cinema’s most acclaimed actresses, will inspire citizens to take the first step towards active living.

Speaking about his association, Bhaichung Bhutia said, “My connection with Kolkata has always been special. It was here, in the City of Joy, that my professional football journey began, providing me with countless memories and immense happiness during my playing days. Today, we are celebrating the 10th edition of the Tata Steel World 25K Kolkata. It is a special to celebrate this bond and inspire the city and its people to become part of this movement”.

I urge everyone to step out on Sunday, 21st December, to showcase the spirit of Kolkata and make this event a grand success. Let’s mark A Decade of Difference a landmark celebration for everyone, whether starting from Red Road or running in from anywhere across the world.”

Medal of Steel for 25K Finishers: To honour the incredible resolve and endurance of every 25K finisher, each participant will receive a uniquely crafted ‘Medal of Steel’, a special tribute from Tata Steel. Forged by metal from Tata Steel, this medal symbolises the grit, strength, and determination that define the spirit of the runners.

TS World 25K Debutantes: The 25K Debutant Program is a tribute to all participants taking on the 25K km challenge for the very first time. Each debutant will receive a specially designed Debutant bib, a badge of honour to wear with pride on race day.

Home Run Squad: Celebrate the spirit of togetherness with the Home Run Squad, a special campaign that honours families who lace up and participate together. This will enable runners to receive an exclusive ‘Home Run Squad’ digital photo frame, a treasured memento celebrating their collective achievement and shared experience.

Vijay Diwas Trophy:

Continuing a proud tradition, the Tata Steel World 25K Kolkata hosts the prestigious Vijay Diwas Trophy, contested between the Indian Army, Indian Navy, and Indian Air Force. This unique competition stands as a symbol of solidarity with the Services and has been an integral part of the Eastern Command’s running festival since its inception in 2018. Inspired by the historic Vijay Smarak, the trophy is a Rolling Trophy that carries deep significance and honour.

Vivek Singh, Joint MD, Procam International, said, “The 10th edition of the Tata Steel World 25K Kolkata is a landmark moment, a celebration of vision, commitment, and community. What began as an effort to make the East run has today become the World’s First Gold Label 25K race. This journey would not have been possible without the steadfast support of our sponsors, the Government of West Bengal, the Indian Army Eastern Command, Kolkata Police, Kolkata Municipal Corporation, and every participant who has embraced the event over the past decade. Together, we have created more than a race; we have nurtured a movement that belongs to the people of Kolkata and inspires the world.”
