Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha Meets Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Seeks Support for State’s Key Initiatives

Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha met with  Prime Minister  Narendra Modi in New Delhi, expressing gratitude for the Prime Minister’s visionary leadership and reaffirming Tripura’s commitment to the goal of “Viksit Tripura, Viksit Bharat”. During the meeting, Dr. Saha apprised Prime Minister Modi about the latest developmental initiatives undertaken by the state government and sought the Centre’s continued support for several vital projects and proposals.

Focused Discussions on Transformative State Projects

Dr. Saha highlighted the state’s ongoing commitment to inclusive welfare and economic growth, placing particular emphasis on the needs of marginalized communities and public infrastructure enhancements. Among the key matters raised, Dr. Saha requested:

– Inclusion of Bru-Reang Community under NFSA: Urging for the integration of the Bru-Reang community into the National Food Security Act (NFSA) scheme to ensure food security and equitable access to welfare benefits.

– Increase in Wheat Allocation under PDS: Proposed an enhanced allocation of wheat for Tripura under the Public Distribution System (PDS), aiming to improve nutritional standards for the state’s population.

– Double-Laning of Railway Track: Sought approval and support for double-laning existing railway tracks in Tripura to bolster connectivity and accelerate economic activities.

– Introduction of Vande Bharat Train Service: Advocated for the launch of Vande Bharat express trains between Agartala and Guwahati, which would provide faster, more efficient travel options for citizens.

Emphasis on Education and Sustainable Heritage Development

The Chief Minister also focused on educational and heritage conservation initiatives, which are vital for the state’s long-term progress and cultural preservation:

– Enhancement of EMRS Capacity: Requested an increase in the number of Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) by 15, catering to the educational needs of tribal children and fostering social upliftment.

– Ceiling Limit for Externally Aided Projects (EAPs): Proposed an enhancement in the ceiling limit for EAPs, facilitating the implementation of large-scale infrastructure and welfare schemes.
– Setting Up of Agar Board and Research Centre: Emphasized the establishment of an Agar Board and research centre to promote scientific advancement and commercialization of Agar plantation—a prominent agro-industry in Tripura.

– Unakoti Heritage Site Development: Urged the Centre’s support for sustainable development and conservation of the Unakoti heritage site, furthering cultural tourism and preservation of historical assets.
