A commendable gesture by Army soldier:Help in medical emergency by Sepoy of AMC Sunil 456 Field Hospital

Recently, while traveling onboard S4 compartment of Rajdhani Express en route to Dibrugarh, at around 1630 hrs, an eight-month-old infant developed sudden respiratory distress and became unresponsive. The mother of the child fainted thinking the baby had died, the family panicked and there was rush in the compartment. Sepoy (Ambulance Assistant) of Army Medical Corps Sunil, posted in 456 Field Hospital, who was returning from the leave was in the same coach. He immediately rushed to the spot, assessed the emergency with composure, initially lifted the baby, examined her, found out that the child had no pulse or breathing. He lied the baby on a flat surface and initiated the Paediatric Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation using two fingers on the chest. He gave mouth to mouth breathing to the child. After about 2 cycles of CPR, the baby showed signs of life.

He subsequently ensured coordination with train staff and Railway Police for the infant’s further evacuation and medical management at Rangiya station. His timely and professional action prevented a fatality in a situation where no immediate medical support was available.

Throughout the incident, Sepoy Sunil displayed exceptional medical proficiency, quick judgement, and a high sense of duty. His decisive action and calm execution under pressure directly contributed to saving a precious life.
