ASSAM RIFLES IN A JOINT OPERATION DESTROYED ILLICIT POPPY CULTIVATION IN MANIPUR

Based on specific intelligence on illicit poppy cultivation and suspected armed cadres, Assam Rifles launched a joint operation with CRPF and Manipur Police in Kangpokpi District in Manipur.

The operation involved area domination in Songlung, Old Songlung and Lhangjol villages of Kangpokpi district. During the course of operation, security forces detected and destroyed three parcels of poppy cultivation fields spread over an area of approximately 30 acres. The destroyed fields had the potential to yield nearly 270 kilograms of opium, worth multiple crores.

The operation, conducted under challenging terrain and weather conditions, marks one of the major anti-narcotics drives undertaken by Assam Rifles in coordination with CRPF and Manipur Police to curb the cultivation and production of illicit narcotics in the region.
