Good news for cricket lovers of Assam as the women cricket players from Hajo, Kamrup district gears up for the upcoming Odisha Club Cricket Tournament. After a prolonged period of 30 years, the female players have picked up their cricket bats and balls and are seen practising rigorously. Hajo, a small village of Kamrup district has witnessed a massive amount of love for sports for all these years. It has been a center ground for various kinds of sports thus encouraging sports lovers to showcase their potential.
The women’s cricket team led by Parami Das, includes Pratibha Baishya, Anita Kumari, Manju Kumari, Atikur Nesa, Karimun Nesa and Khiroda Kumari to mention a few. The team which once had to take a break from cricket due to several personal reasons, is now seen reviving back with doubled zeal and enthusiasm.
Flipping through the pages of history, this women’s cricket team was formed way back in 1997 under the able leadership of Madan Das, a sportsperson himself. When women players started to play cricket in Assam, Madan Das encouraged girls from Hajo to form a team and chase their dreams. He built a coaching centre for the girls in 1997 and helped them play for the state in the Sub-Junior and Senior East Zone level.
The girls who worked tirelessly brought home several accolades and recognition with their brilliant performances. During the time, when women coming out of their houses to play was far beyond imagination, this team of girls made it possible with their utmost courage and confidence.
Their dedication towards cricket is a testimony of unwavering strength and power as women. After almost 30 years of break from the field,now it’s time again for them to showcase their potential and inspire more women from Hajo to choose their love for sports,chase their dreams and turn them into reality.
