Mahila Constable Banita Jena, posted at Border Outpost Sutia under the 67 Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF), South Bengal Frontier, Krishna Nagar Sector, displayed exemplary courage, quick decision-making and unwavering vigilance by apprehending a suspected Bangladeshi smuggler. The smuggler was attempting to traffic Ganja from India into Bangladesh, but his plan collapsed entirely due to Mahila Constable Jena’s alertness and swift action.
At around 1500 hours, Mahila Constable Jena noticed a suspicious individual moving toward the international border with a bicycle. She warned him to stop, but he ignored the warning and abandoned the bicycle and began running towards the border. Demonstrating exceptional bravery in a challenging situation, Mahila Constable Jena immediately chased the suspect alone. While pursuing him, she also sought help from local residents working in nearby fields. After a strenuous chase and collective effort, she successfully apprehended the smuggler with the help of the villagers and promptly informed her senior officers.
A bicycle and a packet of Ganja were recovered from the suspect. The seized Ganja weighed 900 grams and is estimated to be worth approximately ₹45,000 in the market. A thorough search of the surrounding area was conducted after the incident, but no additional suspicious items were found.
The arrested smuggler, along with the seized items, has been handed over to the concerned authorities for further legal action.
