An IAF Tejas aircraft met with an accident during an aerial display at Dubai Air Show, today. The pilot , Wing Commander Namansh Syal sustained fatal injuries in the accident.
IAF deeply regrets the loss of life and stands firmly with the bereaved family in this time of grief.
A court of inquiry is being constituted, to ascertain the cause of the accident.
An Indian Air Force (IAF) HAL Tejas fighter jet crashed during a demonstration flight at the Dubai Air Show on Friday, leading to the tragic loss of the pilot’s life. The incident occurred around 2:10 p.m. local time (10:10 GMT) as the aircraft was performing an aerial display, including a low roll and negative G maneuver, before descending sharply and impacting the ground approximately one mile from the runway.
The Dubai incident marks the second crash involving a Tejas aircraft in less than two years. The first occurred in March 2024 near Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, when a fighter jet crashed while returning from a tri-services military exercise in the Pokhran desert.
The Dubai Air Show, a premier international aviation event showcasing advanced military and civilian aircraft, was attended by global industry leaders, dignitaries, and aviation enthusiasts. The crash disrupted the afternoon demonstrations, prompting immediate response from emergency services to secure the site and manage the plume of black smoke visible from afar.
