Troops of the South Bengal Frontier of the Border Security Force (BSF) carried out a successful operation in the Maluapara border outpost area of the 32 Battalion along the India–Bangladesh international border in Nadia district, West Bengal. Acting on a tip-off, BSF personnel arrested two Indian smugglers, delivering a major blow to the gold smuggling network. During the operation, 510 grams of gold biscuits were seized, valued at approximately ₹6,737,100.

On the morning of December 17, BSF personnel at Maluapara border outpost received secret information that smugglers were planning to bring smuggled gold from Bangladesh into India through this area. Immediately, all troops were placed on high alert. Around 10 a.m., jawans spotted a suspicious person approaching the Indian side from Bangladesh, using bamboo bushes for cover. When challenged, the individual surrendered without resistance. A thorough search revealed two plastic-wrapped packets containing four gold biscuits. The suspect was arrested on the spot along with the seized gold.

Interrogation of the arrested smuggler revealed that he was supposed to deliver the consignment to a person in his own village. Acting swiftly on this information, BSF troops raided Rangiapota village and based on his identification, detained another smuggler from his house. Both were then brought to the Maluapara border outpost for questioning, where they admitted that they had been promised payment for their involvement in this illegal activity. The BSF’s vigilance thwarted this smuggling attempt in time.

The two arrested smugglers, along with the seized gold, have been handed over to the concerned authorities for further legal action.

The Public Relations Officer of the BSF South Bengal Frontier expressed appreciation for the successful operation and stated that BSF jawans are fully capable, vigilant and dedicated to preventing illegal activities such as smuggling along the border. He urged border residents to share any information related to gold smuggling through the BSF Seema Sathi helpline number 14419 or via WhatsApp message or voice message on 9903472227. He assured that appropriate rewards would be given for credible information and the identity of the informants would be kept strictly confidential.
