Assam women win friendly series 2–0 against Namibia

Assam sealed the Senior Women Friendly Cricket Series 2026 with a convincing 2–0 win over Namibia after registering an eight-wicket victory in the second one-day match at the ACA Cricket Academy Ground in Fulung, North Guwahati on Sunday.

Namibia, after winning the toss, elected to bat but were bundled out for 118 in 31.1 overs. Sune Wittmann top scored with 58, while Wilka Mwatile made 19 and Yasmeen Khan added 18. Assam’s bowlers dominated the proceedings with Gayatri Gurung and Priyanka Kalita picking up three wickets each. Jintimoni Kalita claimed two wickets, while Nirupama Boro and Urmila Chatterjee took one apiece.

Assam chased down the modest target comfortably, reaching 119 for two in 22.1 overs. Gayatri Gurung remained unbeaten on 54, with Rashmi Dey contributing an unbeaten 34. Amontika Munda chipped in with 13. For Namibia, Saima Tuhadeleni and Sylvia Shihepo took one wicket each.

Assam had earlier won the first match by 98 runs in Mangaldai on Saturday.

Gayatri Gurung (Assam) was named player of the final, best batter and player of the series with 112 runs along with four wickets. Saima Tuhadeleni (Namibia) emerged as the best bowler, taking four wickets across the two matches.

The award ceremony was graced by BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia as chief guest, along with ACA President Taranga Gogoi, ACA Secretary Sanatan Das, Vice President Romen Dutta, Joint Secretary Rajendra Singh, Treasurer Anupam Deka, Apex Council Member Mukutananda Bhattacharjya and other senior ACA officials.

Speaking on the occasion, Devajit Saikia said he was delighted to have Namibia touring Assam and stressed the importance of such exposure. He said playing in different conditions would help players prepare better for domestic competitions and that exchange programmes benefit both teams.

ACA President Taranga Gogoi said it was a pleasure to welcome the Namibian side and wished them well for their future matches. He also congratulated the Assam team for their performance and expressed hope for more international tie-ups in the coming days.
